Tommy Logan, Sonja Wiseman, Jamie Viney

Tommy has gained a range of industry experience having worked in Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and Alice Springs before taking the plunge and setting up shop in Darwin.

Tommy bought one horse in Darwin, a chestnut named Fromthenevernever – he is the one that kicked things off.

He was their first winner. He won first-up for Tommy on Melbourne Cup day in November 2021, and then he won again at his next start two and a half weeks later to make it a double. He ended up only having four starts for the team (he finished second in his other two races) and then he was injured.

It is fair to say he kicked off the whole Darwin stable, and now they have got a stable full of ten horses. Fromthenevernever is currently ‘retired’ and still in their paddock at the moment as they look after him while he heals. There is a chance he comes back, but they will see about that.

The stable is following a growth path and are happy with their progress.

Wiseman puts the stable position in perspective.

“We have got a nice sized stable now and the horses are going well, even at the Carnival this year. Although all of our horses are mostly cheaper horses at this point – I think we had eight runners for five seconds and a third, or something like that.

“So, we are not far away!

“I know second is better than third, but it is still not fun though,” quipped Wiseman, “we are always looking to improve.“

Logan and Wiseman have a non-stop hands-on approach to stable management and that is with the welcome assistance of Jamie Viney.

“She is such a good worker,” said Wiseman. ‘You need good workers, and they are not that easy to find, so we are lucky to have her. She is so good with the horses so that makes our life a little bit easier.“
